Definitely one of the most famous landscapes all over the world. Full of history, arts and culture. Lands capable to produce finest and noble wine by grapes inspired by the flavor of the natives. There is no better place for the Ferragamo family, part of the history and culture of Tuscany, to bless their belonging realizing 4500 acres of charm and beauty building a property called “Castiglion del Bosco”.
Located in the most picturesque areas of the Estate are twenty 17th and 18th century Tuscan farmhouses that once supported the Estate’s traditional agricultural activities. Nine of these homes, ranging in size from 3,000 to 6,000 square feet, have been transformed into luxurious Villas for the exclusive use of Castiglion del Bosco Club Members and Resort Guests. Some are tucked away in the forest, others overlook vineyards and olive groves, a few nestle inside the Borgo and one sits proudly next to the castle ruins, but all enchant with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside.
While each Villa is unique, they are unified by a décor which channels the heritage and the rich colors of the surrounding Sienese landscape. Through the careful selection of materials and furniture, from antiques and special items created by local craftsmen to fabrics made of the softest natural fibers, each Villa combines respect for local traditions with cosmopolitan elegance and a warm, inviting atmosphere.
All Villas feature gorgeously landscaped lawns and gardens, and each one has a heated outdoor pool in natural stone. A pergola-covered barbeque terrace and well-equipped kitchens crafted by leading Tuscan designer Riccardo Barthel provide luxurious culinary play spaces for Members and Guests, who may also elect to have a personal chef prepare in-villa meals. Each villa features discreetly hidden, state-of-the-art communications and home entertainment technology, including LCD TVs, Wi-Fi internet and iPod stations. Additional comforts found at many of the Villas include a pool house, guest house, tennis court, extra bedroom for in-villa staff and original outdoor wood-burning ovens. In restoring the Estate’s Villas, great attention has been paid to design and details to ensure Tuscan authenticity and the highest level of comfort.
Golf at Castiglion del Bosco blends the magnificent Tuscan landscape and the playing challenges of a Tom Weiskopf-designed, 18-hole championship course. After an exhilarating round, Members and guests can enjoy the hospitality of the Club House, which features a pro shop, bar and Tuscan Griglia. Troon Golf, a world leader in luxury golf management, oversees the golf program.
While winemaking at Castiglion del Bosco has been a craft for centuries, until fairly recently the vineyards were cultivated solely for personal consumption by each family living on the Estate. Today, Castiglion del Bosco wines are consistently recognized for their excellence.
As one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, the organization that regulates and controls the quality of Brunello production, Castiglion del Bosco introduced the world to its exemplary vintages through the emergence of a commercial operation in the late 1950s. In 2004, acclaimed international Wine Master Nicolo D’Afflitto took command of winemaking at Castiglion del Bosco, along with locally trained enologist Cecilia Leoneschi. Under their careful direction, the Estate is yielding more modern Brunellos that are attracting critical acclaim.
The fundamental goal of winemaking at Castiglion del Bosco is to remain faithful to the land and the characteristics of the grapes. Everyone at Castiglion del Bosco has the unique opportunity to help contribute to this goal and participate in all aspects of the vinification process, from picking and sorting to bottling and tasting. Other Membership privileges include a spectacular Members-only dining and tasting room, personal wine storage lockers within the Cantina, an annual allotment of Castiglion del Bosco wines and grappa and invitations to exclusive wine events. Guests of Il Borgo also enjoy special opportunities to engage in the winery experience.
